In an Exclusive conversation with Mirror Now, Dr NK Arora, the chief of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group or NTAGI, said somewhere in the next four to six weeks, at-least in children with comorbities, India may initiate the vaccination.
Arora said that the priority is to immunise all the adults, because the adults have highest possibility of getting severe disease and fatalities.
“There are 44 crore children in country, we expect that in the first quarter of 2022, we should start immunising the healthy children. We will immunise children also but in phased manner, the first priority is; we are in process of making a comorbities list, which is based on international as well as national data,” he said.
Once the list of comorbidity is in place, with the healthy pipeline of four vaccines for children; “Zycov D, Covaxin, Covovax, Cobervax ….We expect that if COVAXIN & Zycov D as the discussion are going on by the end of November or next six weeks, the vaccination can begin for children with comorbities,” he added.
